I Spent the Day Buying Luxury Gifts for My Mistress — Then Came Home to an Empty House

I thought I had perfected my double life.

That morning, I kissed my wife, Hannah, goodbye and promised I would be home for dinner.

She smiled while holding our three-month-old daughter, Grace.

I lied without hesitation.

Instead of driving to work, I picked up my mistress, Vanessa.

She climbed into my car smiling because she believed the entire day belonged to her.

I made sure it did.

We spent hours shopping in expensive stores.

I bought her a diamond bracelet.

A designer handbag.

Imported perfume.

Luxury shoes.

We drank champagne over lunch while my wife stayed home feeding our baby and surviving another exhausting day alone.

I never called Hannah.

I never checked on Grace.

For months I convinced myself I deserved an escape from family life.

Vanessa made me feel exciting.

Hannah only talked about diapers, doctor appointments, and sleepless nights.

I blamed motherhood for changing her.

I never admitted that I had abandoned both of them.

By the time I finally drove home, the shopping bags filled my back seat.

I expected another ordinary evening.

Instead, I walked into complete silence.

The living room looked strangely empty.

The couch was gone.

Our wedding photos had disappeared.

The nursery was completely bare.

Grace’s crib…

Her blankets…

Her toys…

Everything had vanished.

Hannah’s clothes were gone too.

Only my belongings remained.

She hadn’t left for the evening.

She had left me.

On the kitchen counter sat a single manila envelope with my name written across the front.

Inside was a divorce petition.

Then came months of credit-card statements.

Hotel bills.

Restaurant receipts.

Jewelry purchases.

Every dollar I had secretly spent on Vanessa had been highlighted.

Then I found photographs.

Me kissing Vanessa.

Me carrying gifts into her apartment.

Me leaving hotels.

Hannah had known everything.

At the very bottom was one handwritten sentence.

“You chose her every time you walked away from us. From now on, all communication goes through my attorney.”

I felt my entire world collapse.

Then I opened one final sealed packet.

Inside wasn’t more proof of the affair.

It was something far worse.

The first page carried my company’s logo—and by the time I reached the last page, I realized Hannah hadn’t just uncovered my betrayal… she had uncovered something that could destroy my career, my future, and any chance of keeping my daughter in my life.
