I was already two hours past my shift when Linda stormed toward me, demanding that I keep the hotel pool open another hour for her children.

I had warned every guest multiple times that the pool would close at 10 p.m. because a chemical treatment was scheduled immediately afterward.

Most people accepted the rules, but Linda acted like paying for a hotel room meant she owned every part of the property.

“We paid good money to be here,” she snapped, insisting her kids deserved more swimming time.

I calmly pointed to the posted rules and explained that the pool was closed for safety reasons.

She rolled her eyes, complained that the sign did not specifically say “10 p.m.,” and marched away angrily toward the lobby.

I thought she would simply complain and leave.

Instead, she convinced Kyle, the young night clerk, to give her access to the pool gate without permission.

Minutes later, Linda returned with several families and children who jumped into the water like the rules never existed.
