They Moved Into The House I Secretly Bought, Certain A Family Blessing Belonged To Them

Bianca slapped the folder down on the island. “This is a mistake. Your parents said this house was for us. Derek, tell her.” Derek looked at the deed, then at me, then at the floor, and said nothing, because there was nothing to say that the recorded title didn’t already contradict. “There’s no mistake,” I said calmly. “I found the listing eight months ago. I got pre-approved, I made the offer, I wired the down payment from an account none of you knew existed, and I closed last Tuesday. My name is the only name on anything. There was never a version of this where it belonged to you.” Bianca’s face cycled through disbelief and back to fury. “Then why,” she hissed, “did you let us move all our furniture in?”

I let the question hang, because it was the one I’d been waiting for. “Because I wanted every single person in this house to see, with their own eyes, exactly what this family does the moment it smells something it can take. Mom called it ‘technical’ to avoid telling you the truth. Dad let you end your lease rather than cause a scene. And the three of you decided a moving confirmation on a phone screen meant a million-four house was yours.” I looked around at the boxes, the sectional wedged in my doorway, the wedding photos leaning against my walls. “Nobody scammed you. You scammed yourselves, and you assumed I’d absorb it quietly like I always do.”
