The Wife They Threw Out At Midnight Was The Only One Who Knew How To Keep The House Warm

I turned my phone to silent and slept better than I had in months. By morning it showed twenty-three missed calls and a string of increasingly frantic texts. The house had dropped below forty degrees overnight. Elliot had spent the small hours wrapping his mother in blankets and searching the internet for boiler tutorials that assumed a working system, not a temperamental one held together by a woman he had let walk out the door.
