A Wife Signs Her Divorce Papers Without Argument, Then Delivers a DNA Report to Her Husband’s Celebratory Dinner With His Mistress, Draining Every Trace of Color From His Face2

Gregory’s hands trembled as he read further, his eyes scanning the same line over and over as though rereading it might change the outcome. Danielle leaned over to look, her champagne glass forgotten. “Gregory, what is it?” He didn’t answer her. He couldn’t.

Meredith remained standing beside the table, her voice calm and measured. “That report is from Ethan’s pediatric records last month, cross-referenced with the sample I collected from your toothbrush. Turns out our youngest son isn’t biologically yours, Gregory. He’s your brother Marcus’s.” The restaurant around them fell into an uncomfortable hush, nearby diners pretending not to listen while clearly hearing every word.

Gregory’s face cycled through disbelief, humiliation, and something close to panic. “This isn’t possible. This has to be fabricated.” Meredith shook her head slowly. “I had it verified through an independent lab, the same one your hospital uses for paternity disputes. I made sure it would hold up, in case you tried exactly what you’re trying right now.”

Danielle pushed her chair back slightly, visibly reconsidering the celebratory dinner she’d been so eager to attend. “Wait, Marcus? Your brother Marcus?” Gregory’s silence answered the question more completely than words could have. Meredith continued, her tone never rising, never breaking. “I found out about your affairs the same week I found out about his. Fifteen years of loyalty from me, and apparently neither of you thought I deserved the truth about anything.”

She picked up her purse, leaving the envelope on the table between them. “Enjoy your new beginning, Gregory. I signed the papers because I was done fighting for something you’d already destroyed. But I wasn’t going to let you walk away thinking you got away with all of it clean.” She turned and walked out of Vincenzo’s without looking back, leaving Gregory staring at a report that had just cost him far more than his marriage, and Danielle sitting across from a man she was quickly realizing she barely knew at all.
