They Called Me A Charity Case At The Lake House Until One Lawyer Finally Spoke

Leonard slid the page across the desk, and I recognized Gerald’s handwriting on every line. “The lake house, the family company, and every account were moved into a trust,” he said. “You are its sole owner and trustee. Marjorie holds only a life-use clause, and only if she never borrows against any of it.” My throat tightened. Then Leonard turned the page. “She has been borrowing against it for six years.”

Before I could speak, his phone buzzed. He glanced at it, and his face changed. “That is Marjorie’s attorney, Mr. Hale,” he said. “He is at the lake house with eleven guests, and he has just opened the deed folder. He wants you there in thirty minutes.” I picked up the envelope, and Leonard picked up his coat.
