My Husband Sent Me Money Meant For Another Woman’s Baby Shower While I Was Pregnant2

When Garrett’s card was declined at the venue, the manager told Sierra the account holder was a woman named Tessa. She searched my name, found our wedding photos, and realized everything Garrett had told her was a lie. She found Lauren tagged in my photos and called her the next morning. Sierra brought her phone, full of messages from Garrett and Phyllis. She said she couldn’t build her son’s life on someone else’s ruin.

Those messages laid out the whole plan. Phyllis had drafted the property papers to transfer my apartment into a family trust she controlled. After the baby came, Garrett would file for divorce, claiming I was too emotional to manage money. Phyllis had even called me forgetful in one text. The “company troubles” were invented. Garrett had been moving his salary into a separate account for over a year to pay for Sierra’s apartment.

The notary packed up her stamp and left without a word. Lauren handed Garrett a divorce petition and a court order freezing his hidden account. Garrett didn’t say a word. He just stared at the pen. Phyllis tried to call it all a misunderstanding, but nobody at that table was listening anymore. I stood up, thanked her for lunch, and walked out with Lauren and, surprisingly, with Sierra right beside me. Sierra squeezed my hand in the driveway.

My daughter, Rose, was born three weeks later, healthy and loud. Lauren was the first person to hold her after me. The divorce gave me the apartment, child support, and repayment of everything Garrett had taken from our accounts. Sierra’s son was born in the spring. We aren’t friends exactly, but our children will grow up knowing each other. And I finally bought the crib, with my own money. My mother’s advice is framed above it.
