My Ex-Husband Planned A Lavish Wedding Abroad And Expected Me To Leave Our Family Home2

My father had placed the land and the house into an irrevocable trust the year before I married. The trust allowed me and my children to live there for life. A spouse could stay only while the marriage lasted. Preston had never read a word of it. He assumed I would never look at the paperwork. Instead, he forged my signature on a mortgage application, claimed we owned the house together, and borrowed four hundred thousand dollars against it to pay for Santorini.

The bank discovered the problem when Helen sent them the trust documents. Because the loan had been secured by fraud, they demanded full repayment within thirty days and referred the forged signature to investigators. Helen said she had rarely seen a case so clear. Preston’s company placed him on leave the same week. The extravagant wedding photos stayed online, but the yacht, the villas, and the orchids were now debts in his name alone.

Carter and Sadie stood in the driveway while Helen explained it all. I came down from the porch and opened the side gate for them, only them. Sadie burst into tears and threw her arms around me. She apologized for blaming me. Carter looked at his father for a long moment, then picked up his suitcase and walked inside. Later that night, he told me he’d read the texts on Preston’s phone during the flight home.

Kiara left Preston before the first payment came due. He moved into a rented condo across town and now sees the kids every other weekend, when they agree to go. His parents sent me an apology card. The divorce was finalized in spring. I still drink my coffee every morning from Sadie’s lopsided mug. My father protected this home before he ever knew I would need it. And this time, nobody is telling me to leave.
