The ceremony began exactly on schedule. I walked down the aisle in my dress, radiant, calm, every eye in the room on me, including Damian’s smug, satisfied gaze and Patricia’s little smile from the front row. The officiant welcomed everyone. Then, instead of the vows Damian expected, I turned to face the guests myself, took the microphone from the officiant’s hand, and said, “Before we continue, I’d like to share something I recorded yesterday.” The wedding planner, who I had trusted with everything, dimmed the lights and started the audio over the venue’s speakers.
Damian’s own voice filled the room, crystal clear. “After we’re married, I’ll get her house and savings. She’ll be left with nothing. Perfect. I can’t wait to dump her. She disgusts me.” Then Patricia’s voice: “Did you get her to sign it?” A gasp rippled through the guests. Damian’s face drained of all color. He lunged toward me, hissing, “Turn it off, what are you doing?” But I stepped back, still holding the microphone, and looked out at every stunned face in that room. “I’m doing exactly what you did to me,” I said. “I’m showing everyone the truth. Only I’m doing it in front of witnesses.”
