Then I opened the relocation account and found twenty six thousand, fifty one thousand, and nineteen thousand gone, labelled family assistance and support for Delphine, before a single relative had set foot in the place.<\/p>\n
He left for the airport at twenty to seven. By half past twelve the house was empty except for the staged furniture that came with it.<\/p>\n
On the kitchen island I left one folder. The deed, the closing packet, the three unauthorised withdrawals highlighted, and a letter from my attorney giving him until Friday to vacate. Nothing else. No note from me.<\/p>\n
He called forty times. Delphine called eleven. His mother left a voicemail apologising, and hers was the only one I saved.<\/p>\n
The divorce took fourteen months because he fought a claim he was always going to lose. He repaid the ninety six thousand in a settlement rather than face the fraud referral.<\/p>\n
I sold that house. I never spent a night in it after that morning and I do not miss it. I bought something smaller on the coast, and I run a small fund now that backs women building their first companies, which is the most useful thing I have ever done with money.<\/p>\n
