Sandra folded her hands on the table, and the whole room seemed to understand that something years in the making was about to be said out loud. “For seven years,” she began, her voice steady, “I have watched this family arrive at Rebecca’s house, eat Rebecca’s food, and leave Rebecca to clean up alone. And for seven years, Brianna, I have watched you insult every single thing she made and call it a joke.” Brianna tried to interrupt, but Sandra lifted her hand again, and this time even Nathan didn’t dare fill the silence. “Tonight you insulted my cooking without knowing it was mine.
