Beneath the bold title, in smaller letters, my father had listed himself as a “founding advisor” and “equity stakeholder” in Northstar. None of it was true. He had printed hundreds of these booklets and placed one at every table, using my company, my nine years of work, to impress two hundred fifty people who thought he was a self-made financier.
