“You watched my son cry over his burned stuffed animals and told me he needed to grow up,” Cole said. “Now you want me to make a call to save the man who burned them.” Walter’s expression flickered with something like irritation, not guilt. “That’s not fair. Bradley made a mistake. This is about his family’s livelihood.”<\/p>\n
“Ethan is family too,” Cole said quietly. “But nobody in this family seems to remember that unless it’s convenient.” He didn’t raise his voice. He didn’t need to. The silence stretching between them said more than shouting ever could, and for the first time, Walter seemed to understand that his son wasn’t simply upset. He was finished.<\/p>\n
