The Doctor Told Him To Look At The Screen, And Everything He Believed Fell Apart

Dr. Hartwell turned the monitor so the whole room could see it. “Your wife is measuring at eleven weeks,” she said. Marcus’s smug expression did not move, because he thought this was the trap closing on me. He had his vasectomy eight weeks ago. Eleven weeks of pregnancy meant conception happened three weeks before the procedure. “You see?” he said to Serena, his voice rising. “She was already carrying someone else’s child.” But the doctor was not finished, and her eyes had gone hard. “Mr. Bennett, a pregnancy measured at eleven weeks was conceived roughly three weeks before your procedure. Your vasectomy did not fail. It was never relevant to whether this child is yours.”

The room went silent. Serena’s silver pen lowered slightly. Marcus blinked. “That’s not, that doesn’t prove it’s mine,” he stammered. Dr. Hartwell folded her arms. “No test in this room proves paternity today. But your timeline just collapsed. You accused your wife of conceiving after your vasectomy. She conceived before it. Which means the entire foundation of your accusation, and this folder you brought to my exam room, is medically impossible.” She looked at me, then back at him. “And there is something on this chart you both need to hear before anyone signs anything.”
